How do I register as an agent?
You will go to the home page of the DCIVS website and click on Registration. On the registration page you will need to enter your producer license number (assigned by the DISB) and your birthdate. You will then follow the prompts to set up your agent account.

What if I don’t know my producer license number?
You can search for the producer license number in the District of Columbia Department of Insurance, Securities and Banking (DISB) website or contact DISB.

I’m an Agent. What is my user name?
The user name will be the producer license number issued by the DISB that was used to register the account. The user name cannot be changed.

How can we correct/change the contact information for my account?
Log in to the DCIVS.org website, click on Account Information, and change the contact information.

I have forgotten my password. How do I reset it?
You can reset your password by selecting the Forgot Password link located on the log in screen of the DCIVS website. After selecting this link you must provide the answer to the secret question. A temporary password will be sent to your email.

How do I change my web account password?
Login to the www.DCIVS.org website using your username and password, Select 'Account Information' in the top menu, Check the 'Do you want to update your password?' check box and follow the steps. If you have previously submitted a secret question and answer, then the answer will be needed to modify the password.

What if a citizen received a DCIVS notice and the customer's vehicle has insurance?
If the vehicle has current liability insurance or you obtained liability insurance, the citizen must contact their insurance company or agent. The insurance company or agent must electronically submit their insurance information to DCIVS using this website.

What if a citizen received a DCIVS notice and the customer's vehicle is registered out of state?
If the vehicle is registered out of state, the citizen must email a copy of the new vehicle registration in the other jurisdiction to Help@dcivs.org

What if a citizen received a DCIVS notice and the customer surrendered their tags?
If the citizen have surrendered their tags, the citizen must email the copy of confirmation receipt/notice for surrender tag transaction to Help@dcivs.org

What if a citizen received a DCIVS notice and the customer's vehicle has been sold?
If the vehicle was sold, the citizen must email a copy of bill of sale, including the VIN, between old vehicle owner and new vehicle owner to Help@dcivs.org

What if a citizen received a DCIVS notice and the customer's vehicle has been traded in?
If the vehicle was traded in, the citizen must email a copy of bill of sale for newly purchased vehicle (listing old vehicle VIN as traded-in vehicle) to Help@dcivs.org

What if a citizen received a DCIVS notice and the customer's vehicle has been totaled?
If the vehicle was totaled, the citizen must email the Total Loss letter from insurance company indicating date of loss to Help@dcivs.org

What if a citizen received a DCIVS notice and the customer's vehicle was non-operational during the lapse period?
If the vehicle was non-operational during the lapse period, the citizen must email the reason for non-operation to the Help@dcivs.org. The citizen will be required to provide appropriate documentation based on the reason of non-operation.

What happens if the citizen does not respond to the DCIVS notice?
If citizen fails to satisfy the above requirements by Suspension Start Date, the vehicle registration will be suspended per DC law. If vehicle registration is suspended, the citizen will be assessed a $98 reinstatement fee in addition to a $150 fee for any insurance lapse from 1-30 days, and $7 per day for each day after 30, up to a $2,500 maximum.

How can the citizen pay the fee for not maintaining insurance?
The fee can be paid online through the DCIVS website. The Make Payment option will appear once compliance has been submitted and the fee have been calculated.
